Mohammad Reza Alvandi

Who has never dreamed of holding a large-format camera in their hands and seeing its elements and knobs almost as if it were an indecipherable artefact, a mechanism more closely related to a piece of rocket than to a camera?

Flipbook version

The artist behind these incredible pieces is the Iranian Mohammad Reza Alvandi, who has taken on the task of designing and creating such jewels for the world of those who observe. So he founded Alvandi Camera Systems Co. after working as a professional landscape and portrait photographer for more than 30 years with various medium and large format cameras that didn’t measure up and finally came up with his own custom designs.

Designing large-format cameras and accessories for his clients according to their particular needs, let’s say, the custom-made Ferrari, is quite a task. He has also worked for many years repairing large format, medium format and 35mm cameras, which has served to improve his inventions and creations.

Based on his experience and manufacturing of various equipment, he built the first 4×5 inch monorail camera in 1998. He also started designing technical and panoramic cameras based on his own requirements. He produced the first panoramic camera of his own in 2006, and then in 2008 the first technical 4×5 inch camera he called PANORAL.

He further implemented a modular system for his models where all of its parts are replaceable and upgradeable, allowing the use of medium format digital backs. He also included tilt and shift adapters, eventually becoming a major manufacturer of reliable, sturdy and portable cameras, supplying these beauties to photographers all over the world from Iran.

Lenses

From the beginning, Alvandi Camera Systems Co. has tried to produce large format portable cameras. Other brands have never inspired Alvandi’s camera. Instead, his plans are based on the clients’ needs and in the form of a specific lens. The planning and design are based on a modular system for cameras. They try to make the cameras very portable and with a high rate of fire. Also, all its parts are replaceable and can be upgraded.

Although technical cameras are also known as point-and-shoot cameras by some photographers, Alvandi-made cameras have more capabilities such as tilt and shift adapters.
