I decided to explore nine glaciers throughout Chile. It was an impulse to recover the essentials, pursue dreams and get out of my comfort zone. Staying on the ice for days, learning to read the terrain, resisting the cold and adapting to the environment was part of that transformative experience.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, a more conscious motivation grew: to understand the real impact of climate change. As a photographer, I wondered where I could contribute from, and I chose to go to the origin: water. Glaciers, which are home to the largest reserves of fresh water on the planet, are vanishing at an alarming rate.<\/p>\n<p>From the beginning, photography was a tool for exploration rather than for recording. What started as a documentary approach soon became more sensory and experimental. Each glacier revealed its uniqueness: its shapes, sounds, and ecosystems. They are not just ice; they are living, fragile bodies, with the right to exist.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>About the author:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jorge Ren\u00e9 Mar\u00edn Reiche (1960) has studies in graphic arts, photography and cinema. His professional career has been developed mainly independently, collaborating with some of the main media in Chile.<\/p>\n<p>Between 1990 and 1996, he made photographic reports on tourism and culture for the magazine En Viaje del Domingo, covering destinations in Chile, Latin America, the Caribbean and several countries in Europe.<br \/>\nHe was one of the founders of the now defunct newspaper El Metropolitano, where he served as photo editor between 1998 and 1999.
